If you are a Mac user, Final Cut Pro is undoubtedly the best option. Not only is it optimized for macOS, but it also provides a fast and streamlined experience. When using a Macbook, Final Cut Pro (FCPX) outperforms Adobe Premiere Pro (Premeire) in terms of speed. For Windows users, Adobe Premiere Pro is the go-to choice since Final Cut Pro is not available on Windows.

I personally prefer Final Cut Pro X (FCPX), primarily because it is incredibly fast and has outstanding organizational tools that significantly speed up the editing process. Interestingly, the brand new Adobe Premiere Rush CC editing program has been designed to mimic many of FCPX's most essential features, which suggests that FCPX might have been on the right track all along.

For motion designers who work primarily with Adobe After Effects (AE), the preference leans towards Adobe Premiere Pro. This is due to its integration with the Adobe suite, enabling seamless collaboration with other Adobe tools like After Effects, AI, and Photoshop. For those who mainly work as editors or NLE (Non-linear Editing) specialists, Avid is a preferred choice because of its extensive use in Hollywood and its many professional features.
Why Final Cut Pro Outshines in User Experience
Having used the Big Three NLEs (Non-Linear Editing software), I can confidently say that Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) is undoubtedly the quickest to use. One of the things I can't stand about Adobe is their tendency to clutter their interfaces with numerous palettes, tabs, toolbars, folders, and endless menu options, often presenting floating windows. Avid MC is notorious for this issue as well. What I appreciate about FCPX is that it stays out of your way, offering a clean and uncluttered interface that focuses on your content.
Efficient Features in Final Cut Pro X
Basic tasks are significantly quicker in FCPX. For example, cropping a video in Premiere requires you to navigate through multiple steps like the Project pane, Effects tab, Effects Controls tab, and an additional click for a wireframe. Avid's process is similar. However, in FCPX, you simply click the Crop/Motion button below the Viewer, and you are ready to go with a wireframe already in place to crop. This streamlined approach in FCPX is just one manifestation of how it removes unnecessary actions and barriers to fast, intuitive editing.
Unique Features of Final Cut Pro X
FCPX also boasts some unique features. For instance, I frequently use Auditions, a powerful tool that allows you to combine multiple takes into one clip and toggle between them to see which one works best, automatically rippling to accommodate any differences in the lengths of the clips. I love the ability to preview effects, transitions, and audio filters in real time just by skimming over them in the Effects section. No need to add an effect to a clip just to see what it looks like.
The Magnetic Timeline and Conclusive Thoughts
The magnetic timeline in FCPX is another standout feature, offering amazing precision and intuitive capabilities. You don't have to worry about patching audio and video tracks or have things slip out of sync. It's a joy to move a clip and have all its b-roll clips move along with it seamlessly. Some people may say FCPX is “dumbed-down,” but I cannot comprehend the advantage of making things needlessly complicated. Everything in technology is about making things faster, simpler, and more intuitive.
While I do have to use Premiere sometimes and Avid occasionally, I am always relieved to return to FCPX. Using FCPX feels like I am fighting less with the software and more with my editing process. It is a testament to the software's efficiency and user-friendly design.
