Can I Be Liberal and Dislike the Attitude of SJWs?

I personally don’t like SJWs. They are overly judgmental and often take to mob actions to attack anyone who doesn't conform to their way of thinking. Once you realize that this Woke movement is essentially a modern-day religion seeking control over our private thoughts and conversations, you might see why I have a hard time embracing their methods.

Political Correctness: A Broad Term with Diverse Interpretations

Political Correctness is a rather broad term. Some may be against certain terms, while others might not care at all. The goal of PC culture is to eliminate hate speech and exclusionary practices, but the applications vary widely. Some liberals might prefer terms like "Humankind" over "Mankind," while others may not mind. The degree of PC varies from person to person. However, there are generally accepted principles, such as not using hate speech to incite violence against another group.

Being Against Political Correctness Without Being Rude

You can certainly be against political correctness and its excesses without making yourself a complete jerk to everyone. In fact, I lean quite a bit towards liberalism in my thoughts, but that doesn't mean I let it affect my behavior. Sometimes, things can seem over-the-top and it's fine to point that out. It doesn't make you evil or 'literally worse than Hitler.' The 'progressive' crowd can sometimes feel restrictive and cult-like, very all-or-nothing and black-or-white, not unlike some of my past experiences with conservatism.

The massive overreaction to little words and terms always gets me. For instance, a Christian friend of mine on Facebook would share posts about how you should ensure your children don't say "LOL" because it means "Lucifer, Our Lord," and is a sign of budding satanism. Give me a break!

Political Correctness on Steroids

To illustrate the extreme side of political correctness, I recently had a disagreement with some people over an answer I wrote where I called Demi Lovato an "attention whore" and refused to refer to her as "them." They got very angry, yelling that I was misgendering Lovato! "Oh, crime of crimes! How horrible of me…" as it turned out, there are Demisexuals, Demiboys, Demigirls, DemiLovatos, Agenders, Genderqueers, Pansexuals, Pangenders, and the list goes on. If you get one wrong, you're considered awful. If you refuse to "play along" nicely, you're deemed a bad person.

Calling a transgender person by the wrong pronoun after they've explained respectfully why they wish to be called 'he' or 'she' is certainly rude, but not necessary most of the time. If they prefer a certain pronoun, just go with it. However, no one needs to accept the existence of a million genders or believe there are more than two basic genders unless one is medically intersexed. If you haven't been hugged enough as a child, something is definitely wrong with you. Sorry, but that's some space-alien shit right there…

So, you can certainly be very liberal, accepting of people's differences, and respectful while still stopping and saying, 'Hey, hold up, this is kinda bullshit.' It doesn't make you any less of a liberal.
