Is Buying a Used MacBook Pro Recommended?
My answer is definitely yes! With my experience stretching over several decades, including my transition from PC to MacBook Pro both personally and professionally, I strongly advocate for buying a used MacBook Pro.
The Seamless Digital Workday
My journey began in Christmas 2014 when I switched my home computer to a MacBook Pro. The same year, I convinced my CEO to convert our entire digital agency's workstations to MacBook Airs. The shift significantly improved our daily workflow. In the past, launching 20,000 files meant a loud, jarring start with hard disks spinning madly. Installing new software required hours of effort. In contrast, the MacBook Pro offered an instantaneous boot-up, whisper-quiet SSD drives, and a stress-free software installation process. Moreover, applications integrated seamlessly without any hiccups.
Reliability Over the Years
My current MacBook Pro, now nine years old, has performed without a single glitch. The only maintenance I’ve done was changing the battery in the spring. A few weeks ago, it suddenly went dark. Sadly, it wouldn't turn on. After extensive troubleshooting, I realized it was beyond repair. However, I was fortunate to be able to connect it to our TV to transfer the necessary files. I then purchased an older used MacBook Pro (2017 model) with 1TB SSD, 16GB RAM, and a fast dual-core processor for just 5,000 SEK (approximately 455 USD). A new 13-inch MacBook Pro (2022 model) with 512GB SSD and 8GB RAM is much more expensive, costing 18,690 SEK (approximately 1,702 USD), but my older model has exceeded my expectations.

The used MacBook Pro I acquired works flawlessly. It has a sleek, modern design that's a joy to use. I even managed to connect my USB peripherals, such as a printer and external hard drive, to the Thunderbolt ports using an appropriate cable, and everything was up and running in 10-15 minutes. I firmly believe this machine will serve us well for many more years.

My journey with computers started in the late 70s with a 1K Sinclair ZX80 and progressed through the Commodore VIC20, VIC60, PET, Swedish ABC 80, and various PCs from 1986 onwards.
