Reliance Jio 4G: Understanding the Requirements
When considering Reliance Jio 4G services, several key factors must be taken into account. Primarily, these are the need for a VoLTE-compatible handset and a Jio SIM card that supports LTE technology. Reliance Jio operates on a 4G LTE network, meaning both the device and the SIM card must be compatible with LTE technology to access the network effectively.
LTETechnology and VoLTE Compatibility
The Reliance Jio 4G network requires a device that supports VoLTE (Voice over LTE) technology for making voice calls. If your phone has LTE but does not support VoLTE, you might face limitations in terms of voice calls. However, data services will still function. For example, an iPhone 5s with LTE but without VoLTE support can still access 4G data service.
Wi-Fi Connectivity on Current Phones
Regarding the use of data on your current phone over Wi-Fi, the good news is that you can use Wi-Fi to access the internet independently of your mobile network. This means that, irrespective of whether your phone has a Jio SIM card or is VoLTE compatible, you can browse, stream, and use apps as long as you have a Wi-Fi connection available.
Using Reliance Jio with 3G Smartphones
If you have a 3G smartphone, you can still access Reliance Jio services. By downloading a specific app, you can use Jio services on 3G smartphones. However, if your smartphone is a 2G model from before 2008, it is unlikely to work with Reliance Jio services.
Reliance Jio Wi-Fi Hotspots
Reliance Jio has deployed Wi-Fi hotspots in various regions, but to use them, you need to have a Jio SIM card that automatically connects to the Jio Net through the MyJio app.
Jio Services Overview
Reliance Jio offers three main services: 4G, Wi-Fi, and FTTX (Fiber to the X). These services provide high-speed, high-quality internet at speeds from 60 to 100 Mbps. For 4G services, you need a 4G handset or a Jio Wi-Fi dongle with a Jio 4G SIM. With the Jio Wi-Fi dongle, you can connect up to 10 devices to the internet via Wi-Fi. This means that even a 2G or 3G smartphone can make HD phone calls through the JioWi-Fi using the JioJoin app.
Public Wi-Fi and FTTX Services
Reliance Jio also provides public Wi-Fi at selected places like cricket stadiums and airports, allowing you to access the internet through your regular smartphone. However, after 30 minutes of free data, you might be charged for additional usage.
Finally, the FTTX Jio network offers optical fiber to your home, promising internet speeds above 100 Mbps. This service can be used just like a normal landline phone connection, but with significantly higher speeds compared to traditional DSL/ADSL routers.
