Resuming a Windows 10 Installation After Interruption

If you quit in the middle of a Windows 10 installation, you may wonder if you can resume it from where you left off. Although the official Microsoft support suggests that you cannot, there are some steps you can try to continue your installation process.

Restarting the Installation

When an installation is interrupted, you might see options to continue or repair the installation the next time you boot your computer. However, if these options are not visible, you will have to restart the installation from the beginning.

Boot from Installation Media

If you have a Windows 10 installation USB or DVD, follow these steps to resume your installation:

Insert the USB or DVD into your computer and restart the computer. Press the appropriate key (usually F12, F2, Esc, or Delete) to boot from the media, based on your system specifications. Select your language preferences and click Next. Click on Repair your computer if you're trying to recover an incomplete installation, or click on Install now to start a new installation.

Choose Installation Type

When you click on Install now, you may be prompted to choose between an upgrade, which keeps your files and applications, or a custom installation, which does not. Choose the type based on your needs.

Follow Installation Prompts

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.

Check for Recovery Options

If the installation fails or you encounter issues, you can access recovery options by booting into the Advanced startup options. To do this, hold down the Shift key while selecting Restart from the Start menu.

Additional Tips

Backup Important Data: If you had important data on your drive, ensure that you have backups before proceeding with a fresh installation. This step is crucial to protect your files in case of any issues during the installation.

Consider Windows Recovery Tools: If your system is in a problematic state, consider using Windows recovery tools or third-party recovery software to troubleshoot and fix the installation issues.

In the case of interruptions during the validation/verification of the download, you should be able to continue the process. For the specific steps, note that the names of files and folders refer to the 32-bit version, which is the one I had to interrupt. However, the names might be different in the 64-bit version.

Steps to Continuously Download and Install
