How Does a Senior Citizen Lift a Heavy Printer?
The same way a younger person would lift one. Straight back bend at the knees. Bending over at the back seems to be the easy way to injure your back. When in doubt if you can lift it safely, get one of the kids or grandkids to do it.
Physical Condition Matters
I’d imagine with great difficulty#8230; OR with help. OR it depends on what age you’re talking about. Get some very fit and healthy senior citizens that can do it better than a young person.
This question doesn’t just apply to senior citizens; it really applies to all ages as some people can carry heavier weights than others. At 77, I find few problems lifting heavy things, but then for many years, I looked after horses, riding them, cleaning them out, grooming them, and lifting and moving around heavy bales of hay. My shoulders and arms are strong as is my body core, and I have few problems that I can’t overcome. I’ve no collarbone on my left side, so have to be a bit careful how I use my left arm. On the other hand, if you’ve never developed strength in your back and shoulders, lifting even a bucket full of water can be an effort.
So senior citizens who are still fit can lift stuff, while younger people who have developed few muscles find it hard. Simple as that.
Proper Technique and Safety Measures
You don’t lift a heavy printer if you’re not physically capable. I’ve lifted more than a few M600 series printers, and to get them off the bench, I took out the paper tray and the duplexer, and they’re in excess of three stones or forty-five pounds or 20 kg, depending on whether you can use proper weights or not. I wouldn’t even consider lifting a 9000 series printer on my own; I got a forklift to do it once.
When lifting a heavy printer, first take out the paper tray and anything else that’s likely to slide out and wallop you. I learned that one the hard way when I picked one up, and the paper tray fetched me a good one in the knacks while I had three stones of very expensive equipment in my hands.
Why Move a Printer?
You don’t move a printer unless you have a valid reason. Why would you want to move a printer? Secondly, if you can’t move it, hire someone. If that’s not possible, ask one of your children! If all else fails, just leave it where it’s at until it doesn’t bother you anymore.
Believe me, that day will come!
