The Essential Part of My Daily Routine: Lessons from My Home Renovation Journey

Have you ever experienced how a simple habit can significantly affect your entire day, especially when you skip it? I can tell you from personal experience that missing my early morning routine and waking up late can ruin my entire schedule, making things spiral out of control. It's a stark reminder of just how important daily routines are.

The Importance of Skin Care

One essential part of my daily routine is taking care of my skin. As you might know, the skin is the largest organ in our body, and neglecting it can lead to various issues. Here is the essential routine:

Water Wash: Start with a simple water wash to lightly cleanse your face.

Micellar Water: Follow up with a micellar water to remove any remaining impurities.

Exfoliation: Use an exfoliant from Paula's Choice for a deep clean and smooth texture.

Serum: Apply a serum to target specific skin concerns.

Moisturizer: Finish with a facial moisturizer that contains at least 30 SPF. This not only hydrates your skin but also protects from harmful UV rays.

Investing time and effort in your skin care routine can significantly enhance your overall skin health and appearance.

A Day in the Life: A Remodeling Journey

Here is a look at my daily routine after my house, which burned down in May, embarked on a reconstruction journey. Since only my bedroom and my dog's room are finished, some days can be quite tiring.

Morning Routine:

Read: Start with a few minutes of reading to refresh both my mind and soul.

Move Around: Get out of bed and walk around our house, which is still under construction.

Inspect: Check what needs to be worked on for the day.

To the Gym: Head to the gym to kickstart the day with some exercise.

Once I return home, I indulge in a cup of coffee to regain my energy. With a beer in hand, I immerse myself in cutting measurements and rearranging tools, just to maintain the illusion of progress. Unfortunately, the truth lies within my heart of hearts where I indulge in my favorite pastime: drinking beer.

The Ritual of Home Renovation

Here’s how my day often unfolds post-gym:

Alcohol Indulgence: I typically reach for a beer, use it as an excuse to go to Lowe's, and even if my wife doesn't need anything, the act itself is validating to me. I write down a list on a piece of drywall, promising to return shortly with a beer for Brian, a neighbor who sells me these beers.

Visit Brian: At Brian's place, I'd sit on his porch, enjoy a few beers, and weave tales of how much I'm working on the house, only to expose the truth about my time spent drinking.

Texting and Waiting: Call my wife to check on her progress, then head to the bar, text my brother, and wait for her to finish work.

This routine, centered around alcohol consumption, is essential to my mental and emotional state during this challenging time. The beer provides a sense of comfort and relaxation needed to cope with the stress and frustration of the ongoing home renovation.

It's important to note that while this routine is a coping mechanism for me, it may not be sustainable or advisable for others. Balancing work, home life, and personal well-being is key to maintaining a fulfilling and productive life.
