The Journey to UI/UX Design: Why I Chose This Path
My journey into UI/UX design was not a straight path but rather a gradual evolution fueled by a constant fascination with how people interact with the world around them, both physical and digital. What set this journey in motion was a deep-seated interest in the creative problem-solving aspects of graphic design, a fascination that began over 14 years ago.
From Graphic Design to UI/UX
It all started during my days in college when I found myself drawn to the graphic design field. I enjoyed the visual aspect of creating aesthetically pleasing designs, but I soon realized that while I loved creating visually appealing interfaces, I was eager to delve into the realm of user-experience (UX) design. I craved a deeper understanding of how users navigate and experience these digital interfaces, leading me to explore this new path.
Self-Directed Learning and Personal Projects
This curiosity propelled me to devour a plethora of books, articles, and online tutorials. I was eager to unlock the secrets of crafting interfaces that were not only visually pleasing but also intuitive and user-centric. Self-directed learning combined with personal projects where I experimented with various design solutions laid the foundation for my UX design skills.
Practical Experience and Freelance Projects
As my passion for UX design grew, I sought practical opportunities to put my knowledge into practice. I started with freelance projects and participated in design challenges. These real-world experiences allowed me to refine my skills and build a portfolio that showcased my abilities.
Professional Success
My dedication and hard work eventually paid off. I landed a coveted position at one of the leading global UX design companies where I have had the privilege of working on diverse and challenging projects alongside talented individuals. This experience has been invaluable, as it has allowed me to continuously learn, grow, and contribute to the creation of user experiences that are both functional and impactful.
Reflections After 14 Years
Even after 14 years in the field, my passion for UI/UX design remains as strong as ever. I find immense satisfaction in understanding user needs, translating them into design solutions, and witnessing the positive impact these solutions have on user experience. It is a truly rewarding journey of continuous learning, exploration, and creation.
Personal Experience and Growth
Thank you for reaching out. My personal journey began with a BCA graduation and a work-from-home internship at Times Internet as a Product Management Intern during the lockdown. Despite being involved in development, it was unenjoyable, so I explored fields that blended IT with creativity, leading me to discover UI/UX design. I taught myself through online resources like YouTube and later enrolled in a UI/UX course at Felix ITs. This path led to securing a position as a UI/UX Designer in the IT industry.
