One of my peculiar habits is observing people silently wherever I find myself. As an introvert, this activity stands out as one of the few that brings me genuine entertainment. It’s not just a casual hobby; it’s something that has evolved over time. As they say, "when you're not the life of the party, watching the party becomes the next best thing." Over the years, I've become quite the mental cataloger, noting down every little detail about people—right from their hair, clothes, facial expressions, and even the way they dress.

While this habit may seem harmless on the surface, it can sometimes lead to unintended consequences. For instance, I might catch someone staring at me, making me appear like a serial killer with my perpetual grumpy face. However, my curiosity can often betray my expressionless face, and before I can stop myself, my thoughts spill out, leading to some unforgettable moments.

Case Study: The Mismatched Shoes

One such unforgettable moment happened about three years ago at my new workplace. I was in the elevator with a few coworkers, including a familiar face from my department. He was in his mid-30s, dressed in a casual checked shirt, wearing glasses, and sporting a light beard. He was holding a cracked Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in one hand, a common sight among typical office workers. However, my focus immediately turned to his shoes. One orange Nike sneaker on the left foot and a blue shoe on the right.

This observation led me to share my thoughts with my coworker, which later became a significant part of our office gossip. From then on, I decided to be more mindful of my thoughts and comments to avoid similar situations. This exercise not only helped me in my personal life but also taught me the importance of focusing on the right things and being conscious of my expressions.
