The Unseen Value of Precious Belongings and Lost Mindsets

The Unseen Value of Precious Belongings and Lost Mindsets

The significance of lost treasured items can be deeply emotional, as shared in personal stories of my mother, my husband's family, and my own experience of losing a precious mindset.

The Moment My Mother Was Overjoyed

My mother's treasure: a gold bracelet

My mother once lost a beautiful and intricate gold bracelet that my father had given her. The bracelet was not merely a material item; it held sentimental value as a significant gift from her husband. Naturally, my mother was deeply upset when she realized it was gone. Stressed, she declared the loss to her insurance company, hoping that it would be covered. Amusingly, months later, she rediscovered the missing bracelet inside her sock drawer, much to her delight. Upon finding it, she immediately contacted the insurance company to repay the money and arrange for its return. The insurance company was truly impressed and even presented her with flowers and a note expressing their appreciation for her honesty.

The Disappearing Wedding Photos

Unreplaceable wedding photos

While my husband's family treasured a collection of wedding photos, they were misplaced during a family reunion almost 31 years ago. These photos held immeasurable value beyond their monetary worth; they were the original proofs, one of a kind, and irreplaceable. Due to the personal nature of these pictures, giving them away was unthinkable. Despite the family's denial of possession—my active search and investigation confirming my belief that the pictures are lost—it remains a constant source of heartache. Even my children have not seen the images, and the grieving continues, yearning for a priceless family memory.

A Life-Altering Experience with Overdose

A warning from the Catholic Church

Thirty years ago, I came perilously close to ending my life with a full bottle of 90 sleeping pills. The decision to seek refuge in suicide was driven by a combination of insurmountable pain and a strong belief that death was a more desirable option than suffering. Thankfully, my Catholic faith played a pivotal role, reminding me that suicide would force me into eternal damnation in hell. Reflecting on that moment, I am grateful for the life I have been given and the lessons it brought me.

The Value of a Precious Mindset

The irreplaceable nature of mental acuity

Though material possessions hold significant value, it's crucial to recognize that our mental capabilities are perhaps the most invaluable assets. For me, my thinking and rational mind were the crown jewels of my life. At a point, various uncertainties and incidents led to the loss of my mental clarity and wellbeing, resulting in a mismanaged life riddled with anxiety, social anxiety, and other emotional distress.

The loss of my cognitive function truly took a toll on my life, and it took considerable effort and time to regain control. Through self-understanding and resilience, I was able to triumph over those challenges. Today, I am in a better place, and I firmly believe that resilience and support can help individuals come back stronger from any hardship.
