Why I'm Holding Off on Buying the iPhone XR or 11

When it comes to upgrading my smartphone, I've always been in the camp of those who value functionality and practicality over flashy new features or marketing hype. If you've wondered whether you should upgrade to the iPhone XR or 11, let me share my thoughts and reasons for holding off.

Why I'm Not Buying the iPhone XR

My current iPhone 7 is a working horse that has served me well for several years now. Despite its age, I still get almost everything I need from my phone. The battery life is excellent, and the device remains functional for everyday tasks.

Now, let's talk about the iPhone XR. While it might seem like a step up with its improved battery life and better camera, it's important to consider the value proposition. At a price tag of 76,000 Rupees, it's not worth it in my opinion. The technology in the iPhone XR is not revolutionary, and within a year, newer gadgets will likely hit the market. Additionally, the phone lacks fast charging capabilities, making it less convenient for busy users.

My Current iPhone 7

My current iPhone 7 is still an excellent choice for me. It offers everything I need for day-to-day use. Here are some of the key reasons why:

Excellent battery life Competent camera for taking notes and sending messages Decent performance for most tasks A relatively low price point in India Support and updates will continue for years to come

For these reasons, I see no compelling reason to upgrade to the iPhone XR at this moment.

Future Plans for iPhone XR 2 or 2020

While I am not ready to buy the iPhone XR, I might consider the iPhone XR 2 in 2020. The decision to upgrade would largely depend on my research and reviews of that model. However, with Sony Mobile potentially exiting the market and Huawei's recent troubles, Apple might see an opportunity to gain more market share.

Considering Other Options

When it comes to alternatives to the iPhone, I have a few considerations. For instance, despite my familiarity with Apple's ecosystem, I am not comfortable with brands like Xiaomi or Huawei due to political and social reasons. Sony Mobile might be an option, but given the company's financial troubles, it might not be the best choice.

Ultimately, my current strategy is to wait and see. Apple still holds a strong market share, and if I decide to upgrade, the iPhone X might be a good choice. It's also something my 90% of friends use, which can be reassuring.

Investing Over Upgrading

While the allure of a new iPhone might be tempting, I also consider whether the money would be better spent elsewhere. For example, I could use the funds to invest in stocks or a retirement account, which might yield better returns in the long run. Investing is often a wiser use of money, especially when the new technology might be outdated in a short while.
